Why did we create Sacando Espuma ?
On the one hand
In 2014, 1 in 4 children worldwide suffered from stunted growth mainly due to lack of hygiene conditions.
Pneumonia and diarrhoeal diseases are two of the leading causes of death among children under five.
More than 6 million Mexicans do not have access to drinking water
There is social inequality in access to water with a lack of water security
Authorities recommend hand washing several times a day with soap but many families do not have the money to buy it
Every day, hotels throw away thousands of bars of partially used soap in Mexico
These products end their life in the municipal dump, contaminating our subsoil.
How does it work?
How does it work?
We collect, sort and process donations of discarded soap and bottled amenities.
We recycle these product donations through a delicate recycling process.
We donate these recycled products to poor people who are more prone to high mortality rates due to acute respiratory infection and diarrheal disease in the State of Quintana Roo.
Soap recycling is a hygienic process ?
Upon receipt, the soap goes through a complete recycling process.
First, we clean the surface to remove the outer layer. Then we mix it with a sterilizing solution and process it by machine to form new bars ready to be donated.
As a result of the cleaning process, the soap comes out 100% clean. All pathogens are successfully eliminated through this process.
How do we join the UN ODS?
Good hygiene practices play a key role in achieving several of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDAs).
These safe hygiene practices ensure good health and promote well-being for all (ODS 3). This is especially important for children who are much more vulnerable to infection than adults.
Infectious diseases, such as diarrhoea and pneumonia, threaten the lives of millions of children every year.
The good news is that they're preventable.
Simply washing hands with soap removes 90 per cent of contaminants, and safe hand hygiene could prevent one in three children from getting diarrhoea, and nearly one in five from becoming sick from respiratory infections such as pneumonia.
Better hand hygiene avoids situations where infections are life-threatening.
UN Sustainable Development Goal 6 calls for universal access to water, sanitation and hygiene(WASH) worldwide by 2030.
WASH is an acronym that stands for 'water, sanitation and hygiene'.
The Sacando Espuma Mexico program works in conjunction with local and state authorities to make this goal achievable in our region.
